G. Merlin Dann
Gerald Merlin Dann, my father-in-law, was the man God used to challenge my unbelief. He became a believer in Christ shortly after my wife and I were married in 1967. When we visited, he was insistent that I read the Bible and do what it said. I had no desire to read the Bible, since I was convinced that my stereotypes of Christians were correct and that being religious was not for me. I remember one time when he opened his Bible to John 3:16 and told me to read it out loud. Needless to say, I didn’t want to, but to keep peace in the family, I did. After reading, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life,” he told me to substitute my name for the word whosoever. When I did, I began the journey that led to my conversion to Christ a few short months later in February 1968. I am eternally grateful for his simple faith and bold obedience to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Since 2004, he has been enjoying the mystery and majesty of everlasting life in the presence of his Heavenly Father and the Savior who died for him. And because of him and a handful of other faithful Christ-following men that God has brought into my life, so will I.
I just wanted to say thank you – to God and to “Dad.”

This is a loving tribute to a man whom many people likely attribute their introduction to the Savior. Uncle Merlin used to call me a little missionary and we shared our love of Christ with great delight, always reminding each other that the miracles He had done in our lives before, He was still well able to do. Uncle Merlin was strict and sure of his faith and desire that those he loved find it.
