Ed Britton
Our friend Ed Britton is a modern-day Apostle Paul. A 1958 graduate of my alma mater, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (where he was a classmate of Senator John McCain), Ed captained the Navy Lacrosse team and then went on to have a successful career in the military. Following his time in the military Ed spent the rest of his working life at Smith Barney where he was very successful in the investment field. However, if you know Ed Britton, his focus on investment has nothing to do with dollars and cents but it does have everything to do with investments for eternity. I have often heard it said that you don’t actually meet Ed Britton, you encounter him – and when you do, you realize the impact of this one man.
Like the Apostle Paul who was shipwrecked, stone, spat upon, despised by his peers and left for dead, Ed Britton has also suffered for his faith but he has never flinched. If Ed were here now he would echo the words of the Apostle Paul from Romans 1:16 (For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ – it is the power of salvation for all who believe”) He believes that with every fiber of his body and is compelled to tell everyone who will listen and even those who won’t. I would submit that this one man has handed out more gospel tracts than any human being in any generation. Ed would be here today if it were not for the leukemia that has overtaken his earthly body. In early January the doctors gave him about 30 days but God continues to use him today. Very soon Ed will depart for his heavenly home but until that time he again echoes the word of Paul — “For me to live is Christ”! On behalf of his saintly wife Dottie, his three sons, Steve, Dan and David, we honor Ed Britton as a man of honor and a champion for Christ.
